Energy storage batteries generally refer to energy storage batteries, mainly used for solar energy, wind power generation equipment, and renewable energy storage energy. In recent years, driven by the goal of achieving carbon neutrality, a large proportion of renewable energy will be connected to the power system in the future. The development of energy storage will be an important support to maintain the security and stability of the entire power system, which also brings great opportunities for the development of the energy storage battery industry.
The structure of the energy storage battery pack covers a variety of materials and requires high welding requirements. The assembled pack battery pack also needs to be tested through manual or robot suction gun leak detection. The use of laser welding technology can greatly reduce the defect rate in battery pack manufacturing, not only improving the firmness of the connection between battery packs, but also improving the safety and reliability of energy storage batteries. And in order to achieve automated production, increasing the number of transmission chain lines can complete cell processing units, cell stacking units, polarity detection and CCD addressing units, busbar welding stations, acquisition line laser welding stations, PACK assembly lines, and related testing equipment, CCD systems, HMI systems; Logistics transportation system and control system, etc.
Difficulties in laser welding of energy storage battery PACK module:
1. Pores: During laser welding, the problem of hydrogen generation is particularly prominent due to the rapid cooling time, which can easily lead to hydrogen pores and pores caused by pore rupture, as well as pores caused by small hole collapse.
2. Hot cracking: As aluminum alloy is a typical eutectic type alloy, it is prone to hot cracking during the welding process, such as welding crystallization cracking, HAZ liquefaction cracking, etc. Due to the composition analysis of the weld zone, the grain boundaries melt, and under stress, liquefaction occurs at the grain boundaries
The batteries that provide driving power for new energy electric vehicles are called power batteries, including traditional lead-acid batteries, nickel hydrogen batteries, and emerging lithium-ion power batteries. As is well known, power batteries are the "heart" of new energy vehicles. As a supporting industry for new energy vehicles, driven by the new energy vehicle industry in recent years, the power battery industry has also experienced explosive growth. Provide a comprehensive solution for laser welding of new energy vehicle battery PACK modules, mainly including square aluminum shell battery module welding, cylindrical large single cell battery module welding, and soft package battery module welding.
The relationship between new energy power batteries and laser welding
Power batteries account for 30% -40% of the total number of new energy vehicles, and have a significant impact on key indicators such as range, vehicle life, and safety. Therefore, improving the performance of power batteries is the key to improving the overall performance of new energy vehicles. In the production process of power batteries, from cell manufacturing to PACK assembly, welding is a very important manufacturing process. Especially, the structure of power batteries contains various materials, such as steel, aluminum, copper, nickel, etc. These metals may be made into electrodes, wires, or shells. Therefore, whether it is welding between one material or multiple materials, higher requirements are put forward for the welding process.
Common Laser Welding Applications of Power Batteries
Power batteries are divided into square, cylindrical, and soft pack batteries. At present, the process of using laser welding in the production of power batteries mainly includes:
Middle process: welding of electrode ears (including pre welding), spot welding of electrode strips, pre welding of battery cells into the shell, sealing welding of shell top cover, sealing welding of liquid injection port, etc;
Subsequent process: including the welding of the connecting piece during the battery pack module, as well as the welding of the explosion-proof valve on the cover plate behind the module.
Advantages of using laser welding for welding new energy batteries:
First of all, laser welding has high energy density, small welding deformation and small Heat-affected zone, which can effectively improve the precision of parts, and the weld is smooth without impurities, uniform and compact, without additional grinding work;
Secondly, laser welding can be precisely controlled, with small focal points and high-precision positioning. It is easy to achieve automation with a robotic arm, improving welding efficiency, reducing work hours, and reducing costs;
In addition, when laser welding thin plates or thin wires, it will not be easily affected by remelting as arc welding;
Finally, the structure of a battery usually contains multiple materials, such as steel, aluminum, copper, nickel, etc. These metals may be made into electrodes, wires, or shells; Therefore, whether it is welding between one material or multiple materials, high requirements are put forward for the welding process. The advantage of laser welding lies in the wide variety of materials that can be welded, enabling welding between different materials.
