However, traditional die cutting equipment inevitably experienced wear, dust falling, and burrs during use, which may lead to various dangerous problems such as battery overheating, short circuits, and even explosions. To avoid danger, laser cutting is currently more suitable. Compared with traditional mechanical cutting, laser cutting has advantages such as no physical wear, flexible cutting shape, edge quality control, higher accuracy, and lower operating costs. It is beneficial for reducing manufacturing costs, improving production efficiency, and significantly shortening the die-cutting cycle of new products.

 

Due to the high requirements for accuracy, controllability, and quality of the processing machine, laser processing is more suitable for cutting processes such as metal foil slitting, metal foil cutting, and isolation film cutting.

 

Specific Application of Laser Cutting in Lithium Battery Processing

 

Metal foil cutting: The metal foil cutting process refers to the process of cutting thin and elongated anode and cathode films into the desired shape based on the design of the battery. Depending on the battery design and whether the metal foil roll is fully coated, you can choose or adjust the beam to cut the coating or only cut the metal foil. The laser used in this process is the same as the aluminum foil cutting process.

 

Isolation film cutting: Similar to aluminum foil cutting, the covering film should also be cut into the desired shape according to the battery design. Because the isolation membrane is composed of organic compounds, pulsed ultraviolet laser is the most suitable choice.
