In order to analyze and forecast the market, we have divided the global laser market into six major market segments. Each market segment will contain multiple technologies and application leaders. These territories may have very different market conditions and outcomes.
The six major market segments include:
1.Material processing and photolithography market: including all types metal laser processing (laser welding, laser cutting, annealing, drilling); Lasers for semiconductor and microelectronic manufacturing (photolithography, scribing, defect repair, through-hole drilling); Lasers for marking all materials: and lasers for processing other materials, such as cutting and welding organic materials, rapid prototyping, and micromachining.
With the reduction of trade tariffs and the formulation of solutions for China, the trade issues between China and the United States are slowly being resolved in the laser material processing market. The second issue is the issue of the Chinese market itself. The slowdown in China's economic growth is not good news. Because China is already a very large consumer of laser material processing.
Future economic slowdown will affect future demand. We are optimistic that 2023 will be a good year, and for the laser processing market, the revenue of micro-optics used in the material processing and photolithography market will increase by about 3%. Among them, the North American material processing market has slightly declined, and Chinese laser companies that are oriented towards material processing have shown strong revenue growth.
2.Communications and Optical Storage Market: Includes all laser diodes for telecommunications, data communications, and optical storage applications, including pumping sources for optical amplifiers.
3.Scientific research and military market: including lasers used for basic research and development, such as in universities and national laboratories; And diffusers for emerging and existing military applications.
4.Medical and Beauty Markets: Includes all lasers used in ophthalmology (including refractive surgery and photocoagulation), surgery, dentistry, treatment, skin, hair removal, and other beauty applications.
5.Instrument and sensor market: including biomedical instruments, analytical instruments (such as optical harmonic meters), wafer and mask inspection tools. Measuring tools, level gauges, optical mice, gesture recognition, halo radar, barcode readers, and other sensors are used in the lightest devices.
6.Entertainment, display, and printing markets: including for lighting performances, games, and digital theaters. Front and rear projectors. Lasers in micro projectors and low light level indicators: also includes lasers for commercial prepress systems and photo processing; and lasers in traditional badge light printers for fee collectors and businesses.
Surprisingly, low-power CO lasers used for marking and engraving have performed well this year (4%); In addition, dry-watt CO2 lasers used for additive manufacturing, fine metal and non-metal processing also performed well, contributing 16% of the total laser revenue. Solid state lasers, especially kilowatt grade products for metal cutting, contribute another 17% of the market share.
Metal cutting applications account for 40% of total sales and continue to show growth, partly due to increased orders. Fiber optic laser systems with a power of 10kW or more, coupled with their attractiveness in terms of optical output regulation, can achieve real-time energy distribution changes for welding applications, which also supports sales growth. Low power sealed CO lasers and fiber lasers used for marking and engraving increased by 3% and 8%, respectively.
With the rapid recovery of China's economy, the macro processing market, led by fiber lasers for metal sheet metal cutting, grew by 3% from a loss of - 1% in 2019. Among them, laser metal cutting accounts for 41% of the market share, which is also a leading application of high-power fiber lasers. The absolute share of fiber lasers in the overall industrial laser revenue.
Undoubtedly, if it weren't for the rapid development of the Chinese market, this year would be another year of negative growth. Earlier this year, the development of lasers used in the manufacturing sector was slow, but over time, their development showed a strong momentum. Recently, Chinese laser companies have taken up an increasingly large proportion of the total market revenue. Many Chinese laser companies have provided lasers to local manufacturers in China, and these companies are becoming increasingly prominent in the global market.
