Before laser welding, spot welding and tin welding are generally used for the welding of 18650 lithium battery. In most cases, there are no conditions for spot welding, so electric soldering iron is generally used for tin welding.
The traditional welding process is not only slow, but also has low production efficiency. The reasonable selection of welding method and process in the manufacturing process of power 18650 lithium battery will directly affect the cost, quality, safety and consistency of the battery.
Laser welding is selected for the welding of lithium battery. Compared with the traditional welding method, the laser welding process has a higher level, considerable benefits and better safety problems.
Introduction of traditional 18650 lithium battery welding method
As we know, the shell of 18650 lithium battery is steel. Without a special battery spot welder, it is difficult to weld with an electric soldering iron. Of course, there is also a powerful battery flux, which can easily weld 18650 batteries with ordinary electric soldering iron. However, this powerful flux is corrosive. It will corrode not only the battery shell and positive electrode, but also the soldering iron head.
The welding method of 18650 lithium battery is as follows:
1. First scrape the parts to be welded with a knife or file;
2. As the cathode material is difficult to tin, it's better to grind it a little;
3. In order to prevent the high temperature from damaging the 18650 lithium battery, wrap the battery with a wet cloth;
4. Hold the battery with solder wire in one hand and solder it with soldering iron with sufficient temperature in the other hand to tin the positive electrode of the battery.
Advantages of laser welding over traditional welding methods:
1. The laser equipment covers a small area and can release a lot of space for other flexible layout;
2. Laser welding has no air and noise pollution and no dust. It belongs to xinliyuan product and is more suitable for the use of high-tech dust-free workshop;
3. The laser has low power consumption, high electro-optic conversion rate, low equipment loss, greatly reduced maintenance cost, reduced production cost and improved the production profit of lithium battery manufacturers;
4. Laser welding can adjust the welding speed, welding depth and welding width according to the demand, which can realize accurate regulation, adapt to the welding of different materials and products, achieve accurate welding, more reliable quality and cleaner appearance.
From the manufacturing of lithium battery cells to the grouping of battery packs, welding is a very important manufacturing process. The conductivity, strength, air tightness, metal fatigue and corrosion resistance of lithium batteries are typical battery welding quality evaluation standards. Battery products that fail to meet such standards will be strictly prohibited from marketing, which is a loss for enterprises.
